  1. Download WinRar - You will use this to get to .dlc files.

  2. Download JDownloader - You will use this to open .dlc files.

  3. Visit the IMDB of Fanedits here. - This is where you can learn more about a fanedit before deciding to download it.

  4. Go to www.fanedit.info and click on the Fanedits tab. - This brings up the list of approved and downloadable fanedits. Note: Some of these edits, especially the older ones, might have been removed by the creator for a variety of reasons. Also, some are categorized by alphabet while the new ones are at the bottom.

  5. Click the blue download icon to the right of the fanedit you want to watch.

  6. Download the .rar file and extract it's contents - which is often a .dlc file.

  7. Open Jdownloader. Go to Links -> Add links -> Add Container. Then click the .dlc file you extracted.

  8. Once downloaded, open one of the .rar files (which now contain the actual fanedit broken up into multiple rars), and extract the fanedit file (usually an .mp4).

  9. Double-click and watch the movie with your video viewing software (usually Windows Media Player).

Now, sometimes you'll be downloading an ISO file instead of an MP4. If that's the case, do the following.

  1. Download ImgBrn - Use this to burn the correct disk.

  2. Insert a blank DVD into your DVD Burner (some ISO files are big, and you'll need both a Dual Layer Burner and Dual Layer Disk).

  3. Open ImgBrn and click to 'Write Image file to Disk' option. - Standard settings should be okay.

Sometimes, the file you extract in Step 6 will be an .NZB file. These files link to the download through Usenet, which is a type of file sharing space. You will likely need to pay for an account that has access to Usenet, or else the download will be maddeningly slow. The process of getting all of this set up and working properly is a little beyond what I'm willing to write presently. So, just stick to the more accessible Fanedits for now.

REMEMBER: DON'T DOWNLOAD A FANEDIT IF YOU DON'T ALREADY OWN THE SOURCE MATERIAL!

9. Lost: The Miniseries

When it started, JJ Abrams and the rest of the mystery box crew behind ABC's blockbuster TV hit assured us that everything would get explained in the end. They had a plan. Eventually, they would spill the beans on why Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 crash landed on that island, and why that island had a polar bear on, amongst other things.

As it happens they were talking out of their collective bottoms, and pretty much making things up as they go along, before crashing and burning with a terribly unsatisfying ending where (SPOILERS) they were in purgatory all along. Which is one of the first theories people came up with. Also there was time travel involved somehow. We're still not quite sure on the specifics of that one.

Allegedly part of the issue was that Lost was a victim of its own success: they had a plan to wrap everything up in four seasons, but ABC pushed them to continue it further, wanting to keep their cash cow alive as long as possible. Which is why all that ridiculous stuff got made up on the fly. An avid Lost fan going by the name of DriggyDriggs decided to totally change the disappointing final season, cutting it down to a four-part miniseries where the consequences of the season five finale were very, very different.

There's no time travelling. There's none of this nonsense about the afterlife or purgatory or magic churches. It's just a look at the lives of the surviving islanders, and they act more in-character, and the final scene is totally changed, too.

It's pretty neat, and manages to take everything that was in the broadcast version of Lost's final season and takes it in a totally new direction. Which was kinda necessary.
