Windows 7 Xbox One Mini Controller Driver Not Working

Introduction

On my Windows 7, my Xbox One controller works both, via USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, however, the controller's icon will show up in the Devices and printers menu only when I connect it via the USB 3.0 port! Hopefully this will also work on your PC. Find out how to connect your Xbox Wireless Controller to a Windows PC. The Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows may not be available in all markets. Bluetooth requires a PC running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Right-click the expanded Microsoft Xbox One Controller and select Update Driver Software.

If you purchased an original Xbox Wireless Receiver for Windows and are wondering how to use it in Windows 10, this guide will show you how to install the driver manually if it is not picked up automatically.

While these issues are less common in Windows 10 then 7/8.x, it is still known to happen.

Guide notes

  • In most cases, Windows 10 will not have these problems. When it does, manual intervention is required. This improved support comes from native Xbox compatibility being a major feature for Windows 10.
  • Windows 7/8.x users: Refer to the Windows 7/8.x guide. These steps are intended for Windows 10.
  • I do not know how to trigger the initial installation window manually. This is not shown since this laptop was used for testing after I uninstalled the driver before making the guide.
    • If you are using the Model 1790 (Slim) Xbox One wireless receiver, you must use the following driver: Xbox - Net - 7/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 1.0.46.1.

    • Plug your Xbox Wireless Receiver into your PC. If the installation works, no work is needed. If it fails, proceed to Step 2.

    • Open Device Manager. The best way to do this on Windows 10 is to right click the Start Menu and select Device Manager.

    • Locate the Other Devices section. Without a driver installed, the receiver will be found here.

    • Double click XBOX ACC and verify your error code is Code 28. Click Update Driver and you will see a window with two options.

    • Before manually installing the driver, try selecting Search automatically for updated driver software. Install the driver manually if this fails.

    • Note: If this link does not work, search Xbox Wireless. Go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website to download the driver. Select the following driver: Microsoft driver update for Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows (18.31.1.34) and download it. Unzip the .cab folder with 7Zip.

    • Select Browse my computer for driver software.

    • Locate the folder where the driver is downloaded, and select Copy address as text. Paste this location into the box under Search for drivers in this lcoation:.

    • Click Next and install the driver.

    • To verify the driver was installed correctly, check if the receiver shows up under Network Adapters. If the driver was installed correctly, this is where the receiver will be found.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

This package contains the files needed for installing the USB drivers that will enable the Microsoft Xbox One controller to be used with any game that featured gamepad support for the Xbox 360 controller. If it has been installed, updating (overwrite-installing) may fix problems, add new functions, or expand existing ones. Even though other OSes might be compatible as well, we do not recommend applying this release on platforms other than the ones specified
